Civil Engineering

Civil engineering, EEC style, encompasses the sub-disciplines of structural engineering, facilities engineering, environmental engineering and surveying. We provide civil engineering solutions primarily to the heavy industrial business segment. Our professionally trained staff provide evaluation, analysis, design and trouble-shooting services for buildings, equipment foundations (deep and shallow), reinforced concrete systems, structural steel systems, masonry systems, pressure vessels, material stress/fatigue, river cells, riverbank stabilization and storm water management projects.

Our staff uses the following modeling software to assist our clients in solving their problems:

  • STAAD Pro
  • HEC-2 Compress
  • Solid Edge
  • Civil 3D
  • SCS TR-55
  • CAESAR II
  • PCA Mats
  • SCS TR-20
  • HEC-RAS

Our civil engineering staff maintain their technical advantage by participating in professional organizations, such as, NSPE, KSPE, ACEC, ASCE, AISC, maintaining Professional Engineering registrations in multiple states, and consistently pursuing professional development through courses, seminars and EEC University.

Structural Design

In most industrial manufacturing facilities, there are constantly issues that arise regarding access to important facilities, equipment and systems. EEC understands how critical it is to be able to design efficient layouts and access equipment in a safe and effective manner. To help facilitate solutions to these needs, EEC provides custom structural designs for buildings, manufacturing facilities, access platforms, stairs, ladders, etc. based on the specific needs of the client, including any necessary review of safety and/or fall protection systems. These designs include everything from the structural steel to the foundations, if necessary. EEC is able to handle the entire design.

Pipe Stress Analysis

EEC recognizes the fact that many clients in industrial manufacturing have complex piping systems that are an important part of their operation. To help ensure the integrity of these piping systems, EEC provides detailed pipe stress analysis using Caesar II software. EEC can collect the required information from existing drawings and/or field visits and accurately model the piping system according to ASME codes (B31, etc.) to determine where any issues may exist regarding stresses, anchors, etc. and provide clients with this information as well as recommendations to correct any deficiencies in the system.

Security Infrastructure

Security systems, guard offices, facility checkpoints, and other security items are all increasingly important in industrial manufacturing. EEC has the expertise to work with facilities to design the necessary infrastructure in order to meet these needs. Whether it is designing a new guard office, optimizing or controlling vehicular patterns, adding CCTV camera systems, card readers, security gates, or simply modifying or retrofitting existing systems, EEC has the civil, electrical and communications experience to walk with the client through the entire process, even including construction management.

Surveying

EEC has the capability and experience to successfully complete a full range of surveying assignments. EEC utilizes levels, total stations and robot total stations to achieve the project goals. Some types of surveying projects completed include:

  • Boundary
  • Topographical
  • Horizontal Control
  • Vertical Control
  • Construction Layout
  • Bench Level Circuits
  • Stockpile Inventories
  • High Voltage Line Clearances

Construction Support

EEC also has the experience and knowledge base to help make the construction phase go smoothly. EEC doesn’t deliver a paper design package and stop.

Record Drawings

EEC has a dedicated team of CADD staff members that will take redlines and incorporate them to generate a “for record” package. This ensures the final “for record” package matches what was constructed. This is highly beneficial for future upgrades and trouble shooting.
Since EEC is a multidiscipline engineering firm we can provide this support across all disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Process, etc.

Environmental Plans and Permitting

EEC also has a wide variety of experience with various plans and permits required by environmental and other agencies. We have the expertise and engineering background to gather appropriate information and prepare these plans and permit applications and work in harmony with the appropriate regulatory agencies, resulting in a smooth process for all involved.
