Project Description

Eta Engineering Consultants was contracted to prepare a detailed engineering design package for the installation of a replacement 480 volt electrical sub-station within an oil refinery. EEC was required to prepare the installation plan of the replacement substation in accordance with client requirements, Federal, State and Industry standards and regulations. The installation plan was to be prepared in sufficient detail to allow for budgeting and construction over a two year period. Construction of the new sub-station was to be completed without interruption to the existing plant operations.

Additionally, final electrical tie-ins and commissioning activities were to be completed during a previously planned unit outage. Project management elements of the project included preparation of; Request for Quotation to purchase the substation equipment, bid evaluation, bills of material, construction schedules, scopes of work, and cost estimates. Engineering design elements of the project included the design of the foundation and structural steel to support the new sub-station, cable tray layout and design, cable sizing, coordination study and protection device settings.

The sub-station was constructed as planned and is now in service.
