Loop Splitter Project

A manufacturing company approached EEC to provide engineering and installation assistance with a loop splitter control, instrumentation, automation, and power system.  This unit was fed 100 foot lengths of process material.  The material was conveyed via 7 conveyors in a circular loop.  The material was cut to thicknesses ranging from 1/16” to 2”.  The thickness is controlled to within 1/1000”.  The conveyors are controlled via AB VFDs with quadrature encoders as speed feedback to the VFDs.  The VFDs communicated via Ethernet back to an AB ControlLogix PLC.  An AB Panelview Plus HMI was used for operator control.  The precise matching of conveyor speeds was critical to prevent stretching or “humping” of the process material.
